Andrew Shitov published another episode of the “Raku: a language that counts to infinity” blog series, looking at infinite (lazy) sequences in Raku: Part 2 in which gather and take are highlighted, as well as the sum of an infinite range of integers.

But that was not all: Andrew also published a blog about early adopters of Raku++, expectedly called: “Early Raku++ adopters” with some very interesting entries. And Andrew updated their Raku++ performance comparison board. Pretty cool stuff.

Mutsu under the radar (no more!)

Yesterday yours truly found out that Tokohiru Matsuno has been working on their own implementation of the Raku Programming Language called “Mutsu” since February (clocking in at almost 10000 commits already). Although Tokohiro claims that it is “not yet suitable for production use“, its coverage of the Raku test-suite is impressive already. So it seems there are now 3 implementations of Raku in active development!

Elizabeth’s Corner

As sort of announced last week, it looks like the next Rakudo release (slated for 26 September) will have the new RakuAST backend as the default. Elizabeth Mattijsen elaborates about that in “Mainstreaming RakuAST“.

• Daniel Green bumped mimalloc on MoarVM to v3.5.0 which appears to have some additional functionality that could well be useful in MoarVM.
• Nick Logan again has been very busy:
  • Optimized the way NFA‘s are serialized in NQP, which reduces base memory use significantly.
  • Optimized reductions on Ranges
  • Fixed an issue with how precompiled modules are stored
  • Fixed an issue with native ints being passed as argument to a NativeCall sub with varargs
  • Significantly improved performance on sorting large lists (> 16 elems) consisting of just Int or Str objects
  • And many fixes, improvements and optimizations in RakuAST.
• Will Coleda fixed the donation link of the Raku Foundation on future release announcements
• Elizabeth Mattijsen fixed handling of m:p/foo/ and s:p/foo/bar/ in RakuAST, and micro-optimized some %*ENV accesses
