Timo’s Corner

Sad news from Timo Paulssen, contributor to Rakudo (since 2012), NQP and MoarVM (since 2013): they decided to leave the Raku project because of the use of LLMs in its development. Timo will be sorely missed as a contributor, but it is hoped that his wit and humor will continue to be available on IRC. In conclusion: Timo, thanks for all of your contributions in the past. And hoping you will find new ventures to dedicate your energy on to make you happy.

Core Developments

• Nick Logan again has been very busy:
  • In NQP, added type-checking of arguments to signatures in calls, and adjusted the whole of the RakuAST classes in NQP to have correct specifications.
  • Fixed an issue in dispatch with native variables and the is rw trait.
  • Fixed an issue with recording dependency specifications in precomp files.
  • Made assignments to non-existing elements in arrays, and non-existing keys in hashes almost 2x as fast.
  • And again many fixes, improvements and optimizations in RakuAST, most notably turning many classes that were acting as roles in the RakuAST bootstrap into proper roles.
• Elizabeth Mattijsen removed an optimization in MoarVM that introduced a race-condition in the 2026.08 release, and made sure Rat.raku will only use its new rendering in 6.e (¹/₃ vs <1/3>).
• Patrick Böker fixed compilation of MoarVM on older GCC’s, which was affecting many Linux package builders.
